The Interiors series was created as a part of Roland's graduate school work at Utah State University. His thesis dealt with color manipulation and how viewers reacted to subtle color changes in traditional color photographs.
During the mid 20th Century, many ranchers built new homes,or abandoned older ones. Roland's images of these houses and other buildings explore the relationship between local culture and the temporal existence of these structures.
The techniques he refined while
making the Interiors images helped lay the ground work for the Abandoned
In Place series.
